At present, the NFT market is worth more than $ 40 billion, with valuations continuously on the rise. Most NFT projects fall under six categories: Art, Games, Collectible, Metaverse, Utility, and Others.
According to a report published by nature.com, Art, Games, and Metaverse projects shared approximately 90% of the total NFT exchange volume between January 2019 and July 2020, with 18%, 33%, and 39% contributions, respectively. Since mid-July 2020, the NFT market volume has been dominated mainly by Art and Collectible assets, accounting for roughly 71% and 12%, respectively.
While most of the projects in the NFT market still revolve around Art, Collectibles, and even Gaming (to some extent,) Metaverse and Other NFT projects are also coming up to stake their claim to fame.
A new project called Blockchain Relics has recently entered the NFT space with an impact-oriented goal that sets it apart from others projects. Its unique vision attracts a user base that includes everyone from learned historians to young college goers. This first-of-its-kind NFT project stands out in the sea of other popular art, collectible, gaming, and metaverse projects due to its impact-oriented mission of delivering an accessible, tech-based experience of history to future generations through ongoing. historical and cultural preservation.
But what exactly does this project have to offer that makes it so compelling?
Let’s find out!
Blockchain Relics: About the Project
Blockchain Relics is the first digital archiving project to preserve culture and heritage by combining a passion for history with the power of blockchain technology. With 3D scanning, NFT technology, and the community’s support at every step of the process, the platform aims to create a futuristic museum that captures monuments and artifacts, making them accessible to future generations.
How it Works
Blockchain Relics incorporates the best of Augmented Reality, 3D scanning, and blockchain technology to preserve historical monuments and provide a lens through which people can view history in a futuristic experience. The project uses cutting-edge artistic creations in the form of NFTs to represent, recreate, and pass down history, thus connecting the past with the future.
Why is Blockchain Relics Important?
As the world keeps creating history, some of the existing historic buildings and monuments are removed for various reasons, from natural disasters to socio-political legislations. Blockchain Relics’ mission is to preserve and pass down key cultural and social narratives by documenting the legacy behind our historical monuments.
Blockchain Relics aims to do so using blockchain technology that will maintain an immutable record of all that is documented, thereby ensuring that history and its narratives will always be available to humankind.
For instance, BR’s flagship project has documented the Robert E. Lee monument, which holds much significance in the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. Even though this monument is no longer standing today, its scanned NFTs issued by Blockchain Relics are available across Web3 platforms.
Key Features of Blockchain Relics
Following are some of the main features of Blockchain Relics:
Uniting History and Blockchain Technology
The main aim of Blockchain Relics is to preserve the historical significance of artifacts and make them easy to experience in the modern world. This project uses blockchain technology and NFTs to bring history into the metaverse so that everyday people have the power to participate in the recording of history and view historical events from several perspectives.
Implementing Powerful Web3 Tools
Blockchain Relics is harnessing powerful Web3 tools like drones, 3D scanning, blockchain technology, and NFTs to represent genuine historical monuments in the futuristic metaverse space. BR’s custom smart contract has been designed to allow NFTs of scanned historical monuments to interact in novel ways. With the amalgamation of BR’s strong vision and powerful Web3 tools, future generations can also experience and understand the historical events that have shaped our world.
Preserving and Protecting Cultural Heritage
Monuments represent historical events, and Blockchain Relics preserves these monuments immutably, thereby protecting and passing on their cultural and historical value. By scanning monuments as NFTs and sharing them with the community, BR is playing a pivotal role in preserving global heritage. As people add their accounts and perspectives to these NFTs, a more robust historical record is created to represent everyone, rather than just a privileged few.
For its flagship project, the Robert E. Lee monument, the Blockchain Relics team performed the 3D scanning themselves. However, the project will involve the community in everything, from deciding which sites should be preserved to directly scanning the site and producing NFTs. People can buy and collect NFTs, add narratives to their NFTs, and trade, sell, or pass them on to the next generation directly without any centralized control or influence. Therefore, community support and participation will be held at the highest priority in all Blockchain Relics’ endeavors.
Each Blockchain Relics project will be associated with a non-profit group that aligns with the mission and offers essential services for the community.
Blockchain Relics has partnered with the Global Air Drone Academy (GADA) to offer free-of-cost STEM education for school children in the Richmond area. BR has also been working with the Richmond chapter of BLM to identify students who might be able to learn from this free program, participate in the BR project, and have a career in drone photogrammetry.
Co-Founder of Blockchain Relics, Terry Kilby, has already collaborated with EPFL to create an installation called “Speaking Back” for The Deep Fakes exhibition at EPFL Pavilions in Lausanne, Switzerland. BR also plans on developing more impactful collaborations with museums, art centers, and other organizations that align with the project’s purpose of historical preservation through blockchain technology, NFTs, and the metaverse.
If you want to actively participate in preserving historical monuments and passing on their legacy, you can join Blockchain Relics by participating in their NFT drop and checking their Website, Twitterand other social media accounts for updates on new project developments.
